Counting Down the Hours

Today we’re no longer counting the days but hours until Halloween. I hope we’re not only set to partying but to visiting our departed loved ones as well making then feel that they are being remembered. Simple flower offering lighting of candles (you can get lafco candles at smallflower.com if you haven’t got any yet) and most importantly saying a prayer for their soul to continue resting in peace are what counts because after all it what this celebration is primarily all about.

Personally, my family tries to make this occasion as memorable as we can each time because it is not only the loss of just anyone we are observing it with. My late dad has been a part of it for the last 10 years and despite of that we want to make him feel he is still as important even if he’s no longer with us. So when we had a chance last Friday when my family went out, Mom and I shopped for both fancy and fresh flowers and candles for him. And as planned, a few recipes will also be prepared for the family to share just like how we prepare a special banquet on other special occasions. That is how we choose to remember our late father and the rest of our dear departed ones.

For the rest of the celebration, I am looking to have some fun with the girls through face painting using the paints I just bought too and which I blogged about below if you can scroll down a bit. I am not sure how it will turn out but I am getting excited for that now too. I will try to look gothic if I even know how to do that, hahaha…

  1. Halloween is one of my fave holidays because we get to spend time with the family and remember those who have already passed. :)

Share pictures of your "gothic" face paint okay? ;)

  2. Over here, it's more on the celebration side, I miss the tradition in the Philippines where the occasion is dedicated to departed loved ones.

  7. Face painting is really fun. Our girls like it a lot. They had face painting at the mall when we went there for trick or treating :-)

  10. we mainly stay home during this time of the year. it's a good thing you have your family to help you prepare and do this yearly.

  11. Haven't tried face painting , but it should be fun! We just go to the cemetery to visit tombs of loved ones at this time of the year, and we just enjoy a simple meal with relatives. Halloween and All saints/souls days are not observed here in Thailand, so I miss hanging out with cousins, titos and titas for three years now.
